FIYAB, the Film Producers’ Professional Association was founded in Ankara on August
2005 officially with 28 founder members for the purpose of bringing film
producers together and thanks to that ensure the Turkish cinema sector
improvement and put it to the uppermost level at the international platform.
It has been carried out its activities under supervision and control of the
Republic of Turkey of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. As a state-recognized
organization, FIYAB administers the exploitation rights of film producers in
accordance with the Law on Intellectual Property Rights No 5846. FIYAB is a
collecting society which is subject to supervision and control by the Ministry
of Culture and Tourism of Turkey.
Galip Gultekin is both founder member and chairman of the board of directors.
According to the resolution of the board of directors during its initial meeting,
the precondition for membership is to have productions broadcasted or produced
for broadcasting at national or international televisions and, the productions
be at EBU standards technically.
Starting its activities to provide contribution to development of the sector and
express the common problems of the producers so as to find solution
recommendations. From its foundation date, FIYAB produced projects to increase
quality of movies and television films, to emphasize professionalism, and
reinforced its relationship with related official entities and gained their
supports.
As a result of those conducted activities, FIYAB has gained a great acceleration
and succeeded to gather 250 Turkish movie makers although it has just been three
years from its foundation.
The official and legal mission of the Association is to defend the copyrights of
its members and to furnish them with full of information concerning copyrights
and copyrights holder rights on the field of intellectual property rights. No
need to say that the Association's foremost legal responsibility is to enforce
the protection of copyrights.
Naturally it aims to encourage and develop film production in Turkey; to raise
awareness of the Turkish film industry amongst the general public and in the
world market as well together with protecting intellectual rights of copyright
holders namely its members. From this point of view it works to improve the
quality of Turkish movies and television pictures as the day of its
establishment by developing the field of film both in terms of quantity and
quality of production.
Having well known big producer companies as well as new emerging small companies
from Turkey within its body as of 2008 in addition to defending the rights of
its members FIYAB has been an association where the projects, opinions and
problems of the members are shared.

MISSION

On behalf of its members, FIYAB
- takes legal action,
- prepares tariffs for utilization of their works,
- communicates with related government bodies, institutions and other parties in
Turkey and abroad
- co-operates with other collecting societies and neighboring rights societies
ACTIVITIES
FIYAB, in order to reach its goals, gets involved in the following activities,
within the limitations of the legislations:
- Administers, pursues and protects the rights of its members in all types
of institutions and establishments and takes administrative and legal
actions,
- Assists in the collection of its members’ fees and compensation fees
arising from the utilization of the members’ shootings.
- Establishes administrative and professional relations with public
institutions and establishments, real and juridical persons, in the country
and abroad,
- Publishes professional literature, organizes training courses for the
members and non-members on the field of activities,
- Establishes social facilities and clubhouses for its members and
operates these,
- Establish provident funds for its members and realizes other social
activities,
- Controls and pursues the commercial utilization of all kinds copies of
film shootings of its members and takes the necessary precautions against
illegal utilization of these,
- Establishes professional cooperation and collaborations with other
related professional associations, for signing contracts for its members’
film shootings to be utilized, for the implementation of these contracts and
for resolving the disputes.
- Gets involved in other activities according to the characteristics of
the Professional Association;
1. Organizes national and international scientific panels and conventions for
introducing the Turkish Culture,
2. Promotes and introduces the cinema and television productions of Turkey,
nationally and internationally,
3. Gives technical and consultation support to the cinema and television
productions of the public institutions and establishments..
